OSMOLALITY, SERUM

This assay is useful for evaluating acutely ill or comatose patients. It determines osmolality gap in cases of suspected poisonings. An increased gap between measured and calculated osmolality may indicate ingestion of poison, ethylene glycol, methanol and isopropanolol.
