SPECIFIC GRAVITY, URINE

This test compares the density of urine to to the density of water. It helps to determine the diluting power of kidneys. High specific gravity of urine is associated with dehydration, diarrhea, vomiting, excessive sweating, UTI, renal artery stenosis etc. Low specific gravity of urine is associated with Diabetes insipidus, drinking too much fluids, kidney failure, severe kidney infection etc.
